How do I ... ?

Q. How do I join TJCSGA?

A. Fill out the dues form found here, and submit it to the current state Treasurer.

Q. How do I find out when the State Convention will be?

A. When the information is available, it will be posted on the forums as well as the front page.

Q. How do I register for the conference?

A. When registration opens, a link will be made available on the webpage.

Q. How do I book hotel rooms?

A. You must contact the hotel directly for rooms. Book early to insure you get the right rate! Once our hotel block is gone, we cannot guarantee rooms at the hotel.

Q. How do I pay with a credit card?

A. Currently,  TJCSGA has chosen not to accept credit cards for the payment of dues or registration rates.

Q. How do I file for office?

A. You must submit a letter of support from a member of your college's administration with budget authority. You must then submit the proper paperwork (Intent to Run form, available under forms from the homepage) by 10 a.m. the Friday of convention to the registration table. Your college's candidate and advisor must attend the Nominations Committee to draw for campaign tables during the scheduled campaign time.

Q. How do I update the web pages for my region?

A. You may design web pages ready to be placed online, with links already programmed. Then send them to bfranke@tjcsga.org. Individual changes cannot be made to web pages.

Regions

Q. How do I find out what region I am in?

A. Each region is drawn using county boundaries. Check the region boards for maps.

Q. How many regions are in TJCSGA?

A. 6

Q. When were the region lines drawn?

A. They were last drawn in 2004

Q. How do I contact my region executive board?

A. Each region is in charge of maintaining their region board. If there are not email links available, trying posting on the forums.

Q. When are region conventions held?

A. Each region has a fall and spring convention. The dates for these are posted by the regional executive boards on the state forum page (http://www.tjcsga.org/forums/ )

Q. How do I update my college's information?

Where ....

Q. Where are the forms for campaigning? 

A. They are on the front page, entitled forms

Q. Where are the the forms for Advisor of the Year, Student of the Year, Chapter of the Year?

A. They are on the front page, on the link entitled forms.

Q. Where is the forms for the differing awards, like Event, Media, Song, etc?

A. They are in the Competition Guidelines Packet, linked off of the Parliamentarian's page.

Who ... ?

Q. Who are the Executive Board?

A. The Executive Board is the elected officials of TJCSGA. They are in charge of representing TJCSGA at the state, regional and local levels.

Q.  Who elects the Executive Board?

A. The Executive Board is elected by the delegates in good standing on the last day of the state convention.

Q. Who holds the positions on the Executive Board?

A It is the colleges that hold the position to which they are elected, not the person acting in that position. Each college chooses who their representative is, and these individuals serve at the discretion of their college delegation. (Article III, Section 3, subsection B of the TJCSGA constitution)

Q. Who is the State Advisor?

A. The State Advisor is nominated by the Advisors' Association and is elected by the TJCSGA delegation. They serve a two year term, serving first as Advisor-Elect, and then the second year is sworn in as State Advisor.

What is ... ?

Q. What is the SUB?

A. SUB stands for the Student Uniformity Book. It includes the constitution, membership list, previous minutes, and various guidelines that have been enacted by the organization.

Q. What is the Awards Committee?

A. The Awards Committee is charged with selecting the Student, Chapter, Advisor of the Year, Media, Essay, Event, Song, etc.

Q. What is the Nominations Committee?

A. The Nominations Committee is chaired by the State Treasurer and is charged with certifying that all candidates for election have met the basic requirements for office (paid dues, letter of intent, letter of support, delegate and advisor attending meeting, etc). 

Q. What is the Constitutional Committee?

A. The Constitutional Committee is composed of one member from each region and is charged with submitting amendments to state constitution to the General Assembly. Only amendments submitted by the constitutional deadline may be considered.

Q. What is the Nominations Committee?

A. The Nominations Committee is composed of one member from each region and is charged with submitting resolutions to the General Assembly. Only resolutions submitted by the constitutional deadline may be considered.

Q. What is the Judicial Committee?

A. The Judicial Committee is the judicial arm of TJCSGA. It will hear allegations that have been submitted in writing to the State Advisors. They will have the power to investigate and render judgment on the issues submitted to them. They will then recommend actions to the General Assembly. The General Assembly can then approve such action, apply a lighter punishment or grant clemency. The General Assembly cannot approve a stiffer sentence.

Q. What is the Advisors' Association?

A. The Advisors' Association is made up of every colleges' SGA Advisors. They meet to discuss the business of the organization as it pertains to them and are charged with submitting to candidates for State Advisor Elect to be voted on by the General Assembly.

Q. What is Community College Day?

A. Community College Day is every third Thursday in February. This day was stipulated in 2004 to be a day that Community Colleges visit with their state legislators to discuss with them the importance of Community Colleges in the role of every day Texans. In years in which the State Legislature is in session, the members of TJCSGA travel to Austin to visit with them. When they are not in session, TJCSGA members are urged to visit them in their district offices. The first Community College Day was held in Austin of 2005.

Future Conventions

Q Where is the 2009 Convention?

A. It will be in Austin at the Hyatt on Town Lake, April 2-5, 2009.

Q. Where is the 2010 Convention?

A. It is currently scheduled to be in Corpus Christi

Q. Where is the 2011 Convention?

A. It will be in Austin at the Hyatt on Town Lake

Q. Where is the 2012 Convention?

A. An amendment to be voted on at the 08 convention has the "every legislative year in Austin" changed to every year that the legislature is not in session. If this passes, we will be at the Austin at the Hyatt on Town Lake two years in a row to get on the new schedule.
